Thanks Maggie.
What can we do? That's a good question. Not much I feel, apart from caring for the victims of the conflict and trying our best to explain the subtleties of the Sahara to a media that likes to see black and white in everything. It's interesting that you're working in Darfur. Gaddaffi had plenty to do with training Janjaweed fighters in the 1980s. Another of his dark chapters.
All the best, Andy.

I had no idea you were so immersed in such important stuff Andy. This is a really well written and highly informative piece. Thanks so much for keeping me informed. You once tried to help me get Tinariwen for one of my benefit events for Darfur (I think it was Stand Up Charlottesville for Darfur II) I've since done one for a school construction project in south Sudan, called Hope for Ariang. I think we all need to be keeping our eyes on Africa and helping as best we can, where we can. It is painful to hear of the plight of the Touareg but I'm grateful someone is speaking on their behalf. What can the international community do?
Sincerely
Maggie Murphy

Interesting. I was wondering what was the touareg position with all this mess in Lybia. I don't have an answer now because the situation is far too complex. But at least, I got a few inside perspectives from the touareg side. It'ss rare and precious. Thank you Andy!

Excellent, revealing piece Andy - so much more enlightening than most of the commentary being banged out, thank you. You reveal Gaddafi as addicted to buying influence and patronage from every quarter, while apparently having no political agenda of any kind - sickening.
