Fast, well-written and competitively priced translation from French to English
Translation isn’t just a mechanical process, a simple matter of equivalents – that’s a truth so blindingly obvious that it should never need to come out of its kennel. But somehow, it escapes many who resort to Google translate and similar ‘robotic’ translation systems on a regular basis. Not that those systems don’t serve a purpose. If all you need is the rough meaning of some piece of writing, or to understand a sign in some foreign land, an email sent by a foreign client, order a beer in Tokyo or give directions to a taxi driver in Buenos Aires, then great – Google translate away. But if you need to transfer the meaning of a good and / or important piece of writing, be it press release or novel, into another language, in such a way that the end reader both understands AND enjoys reading the end result, then you need a human being skilled in both linguistics and writing.
How do you translate the French word queue? Tail? End? Queue? Handle? Stalk? Or male sexual organ (only ruder)? DON’T LET A MACHINE DECIDE FOR YOU!!
I was lucky enough to learn French as a child. My mother was a Bulgarian refugee who moved to Geneva, Switzerland. I was born there, and whenever I returned, I was plunged back into a warm French-speaking world. Living in Paris for several years in the 1990s, and working for several decades with francophone bands, most recently Tinariwen, deepened my French and gave it solid roots. During all that time I was was also writing in English – journalism, artist biogs, features, essays, CD sleeve notes, books.
I’ve been a professional French to English translator since 2010. During that time I’ve delivered a wide variety of translations for a wide variety of clients. I think that most of them were very happy.
